About Us

Kelp, by nature, is sustainable. This amazing underwater plant supports carbon sequestration and doesn’t require pesticides or fertilizers to grow (source). We take our commitment to the environment one step further by working directly with Korean farmers to harvest kelp from large, sustainable underwater forests to bring you Snacks from the Sea. Our kelp comes from an eco-friendly cooperative that was one of the first kelp producers to receive an ASC-MSC seaweed certification (source). This certification means their operations have demonstrated proven success at minimizing environmental impact (source), and that employees and the community are being cared for. ASC-MSC-certified operations are monitored based on five criteria: sustainable wild populations, environmental impacts, effective management, social responsibility, and community relations and interactions.

Sustainable Harvesting

When managed well, kelp forests are critical to maintaining healthy marine ecosystems. Not only do they serve as carbon sinks with long-term carbon sequestration capabilities they also buffer against ocean acidification, and improve water quality. Kelp can also be buried in seafloor sediment to allow for long-term carbon removal (source). Many researchers point to how these underwater forests have been overlooked as a tangible solution to combatting climate change.
